Askam Methodist Church is near the centre of Askam, a small town just outside Barrow-in-Furness. There is level access to the church from the road. No off-road parking is available, but there is some parking on the surrounding streets.
The foundation stone for our church building was laid on 14th April, 1870. This means that 2020 should have been the year to celebrate our 150th birthday – our ‘sesquicentenary’. Sadly, the pandemic meant that the events we had planned have not occurred, along with our regular events such as the Garden Party and assisting with Askam Carnival that help promote our presence in the village.
Sisterhood normally meets fortnightly seasonally at 2.30 p.m. and is a predominately ladies group founded during WWI, so is over one hundred years old. We meet for worship and fellowship and have guest speakers, followed by refreshments.
We have recently had the large sycamores in our church garden removed which has now lightened our garden which we intend to use in the summer months. Our church hopes to be open on Carnival Day this year, Saturday 3rd June.
Inside, we have improved our sound and visual equipment this year and we welcome any newcomers to the village.
The Hall is available for hire. Please contact Mrs Dorothy Gleaves on 465378 for details.
